Full Moon in Capricorn
If the new moon cleared some things away, what capacity arrives now?
(And if clearing was not the travels of this time, I invite you to take a breath now. Give yourself a pause. Allow this moment to be a quiet one.)
Turning to Capricorn, the one who charges ahead sharply and loyally.
196 PAN: When the god in Egypt feared the monster Typhon, Pan bade them transform themselves into wild beasts the more easily to deceive him. Jove [Zeus] later killed him with a thunderbolt. By the will of the gods, since by his warning they had avoided Typhon's violence, Pan was put among the number of the stars, Since at that time he had changed himself into a goat, he was called Aegocerus [an epithet for Pan]. We call him Capricorn. — Hyginus, Fabulae from The Myths of Hyginus, translated and edited by Mary Grant
Pan, the goat-footed son of Zeus, tells others to transform into beasts to escape the monster, Typhon, saving others and becoming celebrated in the stars. Some stories say this is Pan or Aigipan, and that he transformed into a half-fish, half-goat creature, which is what the constellation appears as today.
Loyalty granted beauty.
This full moon offers the same.
What Magick is This?
Full moons are light made brighter, sometimes more colorful, sometimes wider from a new angle. Growing to the point of bursting, before slowly retreating with the gifts that come from seeing all that stretches out before you.
So much sometimes.
And this is the first of two full moons in Capricorn. Two full moons to see the parts you have found and that have found you. ‘Warnings’ of ripening and golden growth, as the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere arrives. ‘Warnings’ of brightening and reemerging as the Winter Solstice arrives in the Southern Hemisphere.
Stars in the sky. Arrangements of interest. Placements of memory and celebration.
What parts would you claim for yourself?
What parts would you find in the sky?
What parts would you bring into the battles beyond your skin and within your heart?
I find Capricorn time to be a recalibration point.
Am I heading in the direction of my heart?
Do I want to be here?
Do I like the view?
The company?
The way my heart beats?
The way I breathe?
Like Pan, I know myself to be stubborn and slippery, too. Half-knowing. Half-terror.
Loyal, sometimes to a fault, driven sometimes to half-madness.
Exhausted while hanging onto the steep incline of possibility.
So this moon asks me what I would want to see in the stars, and if I am speaking up for that beauty.
The beauty of being loyal to what is true to me, for me. Even if it is not here yet.
Between answers, there is often waiting.
Clinging onto cliffs and questions.
It’s normal to become still before the sky lights up.
Before you become something that guides travelers/yourself in the night(s).
